What do you run for?

I did something this weekend. I did something this weekend that not only did everyone in my past believe I could/never would do… I did something I never thought that I could actually do.

I ran 13.1 miles this weekend.

Somewhere inbetween making myself literally ill with nerves for high school gym mile day, years and years of volleyball and hating to run and knee surgery I became a runner.

Things changed when I no longer had a coach telling me I had to run. . . things changed when I was attempting to come back from my knee surgery and just wanted to be an athlete again. Slowly I was able to run a little bit further and further. Oh how I remember the back trails in Seward, Nebraska!

I bought into the lie that I couldn’t be a runner- that I just simply wasn’t one of those gifted people who could run for miles. I will let you in on a little secret. Although there are those people, who can run for miles at an insane pace without hardly training… not all of them are gifted- some just pushed and made it happen.

Along the way I have become a runner, and I have {**cough**} fallen in love with running.

I am so thankful for my family who has supported me on this journey, and of course my friends : ) I couldn’t have done it without them!

As I was running… I kept seeing shirts that said “I run for ______” and I was kind of disturbed about who I was running for. 13 miles is a lot of time to think, and I have 2 answers.

I run for me. & I run in memory of “I can’t”

You can do anything you set your mind to : )

{except run a marathon… I’m not convinced I can do 26.2 miles… yet}

Also shout out to an awesome runner named Libby who kicked it the last two miles with me! You go girl!
